Top Fantasy Baseball Pickups for the Week: Abreu, O’Hearn, Megill, and More

In this week’s pickups, fantasy baseball managers have some intriguing options to consider adding to their rosters. Let’s take a closer look at three players who could make an impact for your team:

Wilyer Abreu – OF Red Sox
Rostered in 35% of Yahoo leagues, Abreu has been making the most of his opportunity as Boston’s right fielder. Despite a slow start in spring training, Abreu has turned things around with a .306/.389/.516 line for the season. With two homers, eight RBI, and four stolen bases in his last seven games, Abreu has shown his potential for power and speed. While his Statcast numbers may not fully support his performance, playing at Fenway Park could help boost his batting average. Fantasy managers should consider adding Abreu for his potential to contribute in multiple categories.

Ryan O’Hearn – 1B Orioles
With a .938 OPS through 18 games, O’Hearn has been one of baseball’s unluckiest hitters according to Statcast. Despite his impressive xwOBA of .530, O’Hearn has only converted four of his nine barrels into homers. As a key contributor to the Orioles’ lineup, O’Hearn’s ability to hit the ball hard and produce runs makes him a valuable fantasy asset. While his platoon split against left-handers may limit his playing time, O’Hearn’s performance warrants consideration for fantasy rosters.

Trevor Megill – RP Brewers
Rostered in just 5% of Yahoo leagues, Megill has stepped up in the Brewers’ bullpen following Devin Williams’ injury. With his high strikeout rate and ability to earn saves, Megill is a solid option for fantasy managers in need of bullpen help. Despite some competition for save opportunities, Megill’s past success and velocity make him a reliable option to consider adding to your roster.

As the fantasy baseball season progresses, these pickups could provide a boost to your team’s performance. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis in the Strike Zone as we continue to track the latest developments in the world of fantasy baseball.
