Elmira Notre Dame baseball and Corning softball emerged victorious in division title races after a thrilling night on the diamond. In a nail-biting showdown, Elmira Notre Dame baseball clinched the IAC South Large School title with a dramatic 4-3 win over Edison. Jahmeire Keyser sealed the deal with a walk-off single in the final moments of the game, propelling the Crusaders to victory. The game saw both teams trading blows, with Notre Dame initially taking the lead before Edison mounted a comeback to tie the game. However, it was Notre Dame who had the last laugh, thanks to Keyser’s heroics at the plate.
Meanwhile, in the softball realm, Corning secured the STAC West title with a little help from Union-Endicott. Horseheads suffered a setback against U-E, paving the way for Corning to claim the division crown. In another standout performance, Edison dominated Elmira Notre Dame in a 12-0 rout, with pitchers Kailey Ripley and Mariana Jones-Frosolone combining for a one-hitter and five strikeouts.
Across the baseball diamond, the Horseheads Blue Raiders continued their impressive form with a resounding 19-5 victory over Ithaca, extending their win streak to 12 games. Corning also notched a solid 8-6 win over Elmira, while Haverling edged out Hornell in a tight contest.
In the world of lacrosse, Horseheads boys’ team cruised to a 13-3 win over Elmira, while the Corning girls’ team fell to Queensbury 15-4.
