Sleepy Eye baseball team showed resilience and determination as they secured a convincing 8-1 victory over New Ulm Cathedral in a Tomahawk Conference game on Monday. The win marked Sleepy Eye’s ninth consecutive victory, avenging their earlier season loss to Cathedral.
The game started with Cathedral taking an early lead in the first inning, but Sleepy Eye quickly responded with solid defense and efficient pitching from Marcus Martinez. Martinez threw a complete game, allowing only one earned run while striking out five batters.
Sleepy Eye’s offense came alive in the fourth inning, capitalizing on Cathedral’s defensive errors. Winsten Nienhaus and Isaac Lendt led the charge at the plate, with Lendt driving in a pair of runs with a double.
