Bowie Lady Rabbits Fall to Iowa Park in Tough Match
The Bowie Lady Rabbits faced a tough loss against Iowa Park in a game that started on Tuesday and finished on Wednesday due to weather issues. The Lady Hawks came out on top with a 14-4 win after six innings, invoking the run-rule as the Lady Rabbits defense struggled in the final two innings.
Bowie was looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss at Jacksboro the previous week, but knew it would be a challenge against Iowa Park. With first-year varsity players Serenity Klump and KP Rutherford getting time on the mound for the first time during district play, the team was hoping for a spark.
The Lady Hawks struck first with a leadoff double and an RBI single, taking an early 1-0 lead. Bowie managed to pull off a double-play to minimize the damage, but Iowa Park continued to add to their lead with four singles in the second inning.
Despite the Lady Rabbits’ efforts to retaliate, they couldn’t capitalize on opportunities to score runs. However, they managed to cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning thanks to a two RBI double by Sadie Britt.
The game remained competitive until the fifth inning when Iowa Park broke it open with six runs, extending their lead to 10-4. The game was then delayed due to lightning and resumed the next day.
Unfortunately for Bowie, they couldn’t muster a comeback as Iowa Park continued to dominate in the sixth inning, scoring four more runs to secure a 14-4 victory. The Lady Rabbits needed one run to prevent the game from ending early, but fell short in the end.
Despite the tough loss, the Lady Rabbits will look to regroup and bounce back in their next game. For the full story, be sure to pick up a copy of the weekend edition of the Bowie News.
