Bishop Ward High School’s Baseball Program Aims for Another State Title

The diamond always shines at Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas, where baseball is more than just a sport—it’s a tradition. The Cyclones baseball program is renowned as one of the best in the metro area, with a rich history of success and a hunger for another state title.

With an impressive 13 state championships under their belt, including a remarkable six in a row during the 2000s, the Cyclones have set a high standard for Kansas baseball programs. This year’s team, currently boasting a perfect 11-0 record, is on fire, outscoring opponents 150-19 and pitching five shutouts.

Head Coach Zach Ward is thrilled with his team’s performance, praising their combination of powerful hitting and solid pitching. The players understand the expectations that come with representing a school with such a strong baseball tradition.

“We want to put out a good product. If we do get to state, and we make a run at it, this is a team that can put another championship up there,” Ward said.

The players themselves are focused on doing the little things right and playing smart baseball. Second baseman Manny Dunn emphasized the team’s commitment to small ball, while shortstop Chris Mancinas highlighted their pride in representing Bishop Ward.

With three consecutive appearances in the KSHSAA Class 3A tournament, including a third-place finish two years ago, the Cyclones are poised for another deep run this season. Their quest for a perfect season continues with eight games remaining in the regular season, starting with a road trip to Heritage Christian Academy on Monday.

As the Cyclones continue their march towards another state title, the entire school and community are rallying behind them, eager to see if this year’s team can add another championship to Bishop Ward’s storied baseball legacy.
