Amarillo High’s Season Ends with Bi-District Sweep by Lubbock Monterey

In a weekend filled with playoff baseball action, the Amarillo High Sandies found themselves on the wrong end of a tough series against Lubbock Monterey in the Class 5A bi-district round. Despite strong pitching performances from Payne Williams and Clayton Norrell, the Sandies fell short in both games, ultimately leading to their elimination from the playoffs.

The Sandies struggled to find timely hitting throughout the series, managing only 10 hits in two games. Norrell delivered a gutsy performance on the mound, but Monterey’s Brady Cantu proved to be the difference-maker with a crucial double that cleared the bases and sealed the Plainsmen’s victory.

While Amarillo High’s season came to an end sooner than they had hoped, other local teams found success in the playoffs. The Canyon Eagles swept Andrews to advance to the next round, while the Randall Raiders extended their winning streak to 16 games with a sweep of Fort Stockton.

West Plains also made a statement by sweeping Greenwood, showcasing their improved performance from last year. Bushland continued their dominance with a sweep of Slaton, claiming their 17th straight bi-district championship.

In Class 2A action, the Gruver Greyhounds and Clarendon Broncos secured victories to advance to the area round, while the Sunray Bobcats and Wellington also emerged victorious in their respective matchups.

Overall, it was a weekend filled with thrilling baseball action and standout performances from local teams. As the playoffs progress, fans can expect more excitement and intense matchups as teams battle for a shot at a state title.
