“The Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball Exhibit Opening at National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum”

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY is set to open a groundbreaking exhibit titled “The Souls of the Game”, celebrating the rich history of Black baseball. Thanks to the Players Alliance, visitors will have the opportunity to explore this exhibit for free on Saturday, May 25, coinciding with the Hall of Fame East-West Classic at Doubleday Field.

Josh Rawitch, President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, expressed gratitude to The Players Alliance for their support in making this exhibit accessible to all. The exhibit, located on the Museum’s second floor, will cover the stories of early Black baseball, the Negro Leagues era, Jackie Robinson, and more, highlighting the contributions of Black players to the sport.

In addition to the exhibit, The Players Alliance will bring their Level Up Lab to the Hall of Fame East-West Classic, offering fans the chance to receive tips from current and former pro players on equipment sizing and more. Margarette Purvis, interim executive director of The Players Alliance, emphasized the importance of experiencing Black baseball history to build a more inclusive future for the sport.

The Souls of the Game exhibit is part of the Hall of Fame’s Black Baseball Initiative, supported by the Yawkey Foundation and other generous donors. The exhibit aims to tell a more inclusive story of baseball, correcting misconceptions about Black baseball and honoring the contributions of Black players to the National Pastime.
