Virginia Tech to Retire Elizabeth Kitley’s Jersey: A Legacy of Excellence and Inspiration

Virginia Tech women’s basketball star Elizabeth Kitley is set to receive a prestigious honor as her jersey will be retired by the program. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Whit Babcock, who praised Kitley for her incredible impact on the team and the university.

Kitley, a three-time ACC Player of the Year, leaves behind a legacy of success and leadership at Virginia Tech. She holds numerous program records and has been a standout player throughout her five seasons with the team. Her jersey retirement ceremony will take place during the 2024-25 season, where she will be honored with “Liz Kitley Night” at Cassell Coliseum.

During her time at Virginia Tech, Kitley led the Hokies to their first ACC regular-season title and was a dominant force on the court. She received multiple accolades, including All-ACC honors and recognition as the Kay Yow Scholar Athlete of the Year. Kitley’s impact extended beyond her impressive statistics, as she helped elevate the women’s basketball program to new heights.

Off the court, Kitley embodied the values of Virginia Tech and was a role model for her teammates and fans. Her dedication to the game and her team was evident in her performance and leadership both on and off the court.
