Vera Lui defends 100m hurdles title with ease, Theo Chan shines in long jump final
Hong Kong hurdler Vera Lui emerged victorious in the 100m hurdles final on Sunday, successfully defending her title with a time of 13.27. Despite not matching her morning time, Lui’s performance was enough to secure the gold medal, with Australia’s Abbie Taddeo coming in second and Vietnam’s Bui Thi Nguyen taking the bronze.
Reflecting on her win, Lui credited her focused mindset and dedication to her training. After finishing sixth at the Asian Games last October, she spent months honing her technique and felt that she was heading in the right direction. Lui also highlighted the positive impact of training in Florida with fellow hurdlers, including gold medallist Lin Yuwei of China, noting the encouraging atmosphere and healthy competition.
Looking ahead, Lui expressed her excitement about returning to the US for training, emphasizing the focused environment that differs from her experience in Hong Kong. Despite the challenges she faces, Lui remains optimistic and views her journey as fulfilling and rewarding.
In the men’s long jump final, Theo Chan Ming-tai secured second place for Hong Kong with a leap of 7.75 meters, while compatriot Ko Ho-long finished fourth. Taiwan’s Wen Huayu clinched the gold with a jump of 7.81 meters, followed by Janry Ubas of the Philippines in third place.
Meanwhile, in the women’s long jump event, Tiffany Yue Nga-yan faced disappointment with a 6.38-meter leap, falling short of her personal best. Determined to qualify for the Paris Olympics, Yue remains confident in her abilities and is focused on achieving the necessary results to secure a spot among the top 32 athletes. With a strong mindset and determination, Yue is determined to make her Olympic dream a reality.
