UVA Athletics Launches Sabre Society to Support Student-Athletes
UVA Athletics is gearing up to take full advantage of the new Virginia state law allowing student-athletes to benefit from NIL deals. The Virginia Athletics Foundation has announced the creation of the Sabre Society, a philanthropic giving society aimed at supporting the more than 750 student-athletes at the university.
Members of the Sabre Society will have access to exclusive opportunities such as team travel considerations, invites to special events, and behind-the-scenes access. However, this privilege comes at a price, with membership starting at a commitment of $25,000 payable over five years.
UVA athletics director Carla Williams emphasized the importance of the Sabre Society in providing critical support for all 27 sports at the university. The society aims to elevate the athletic experience and help UVA Athletics remain competitive in the ever-changing landscape of college sports.
Donors can contribute to various funds under the Sabre Society, including one specifically designated for NIL compensation. This fund will be managed through the Cav Futures Foundation, with benefits for Sabre Society members set to kick in on July 1, aligning with the new state law.
For more information on the Sabre Society and how to get involved, interested parties can visit VirginiaAthleticsFoundation.com or contact Ryan Schulman, the senior director of development, major gifts, and campaign strategy.
As UVA Athletics prepares to navigate the complexities of NIL deals, the Sabre Society stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to providing a world-class experience for its student-athletes. With the launch of this new initiative, UVA is poised to stay at the forefront of college athletics and continue its tradition of excellence.
