Uganda Athletics Star Jacob Kiplimo Escapes Accident After Winning World Cross Country Title

Ugandan athletics star Jacob Kiplimo, who recently defended his men’s World Cross Country title in Serbia, had a close call on Wednesday when he was involved in a car accident in his home country. The incident occurred in Kween district, eastern Uganda, as Kiplimo’s car skidded off the road.

Fortunately, Kiplimo escaped the accident with only minor injuries and was taken to a nearby medical center for a check-up. The Olympic bronze medalist expressed his gratitude to God for protecting him during the scary ordeal, acknowledging that the situation could have been much worse.

Just days before the accident, Kiplimo had clinched his second consecutive World Cross Country title in Serbia, finishing ahead of top competitors from Ethiopia and Kenya. His impressive performance solidified his status as one of the top athletes in the world, joining the ranks of legendary runners like Kenenisa Bekele and Geoffrey Kamworor as back-to-back winners of the prestigious race.

In other news, the sports world mourned the loss of marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who tragically passed away in a road accident in Kenya. Kiptum’s untimely death came shortly after his record-breaking achievement was ratified by World Athletics, leaving the athletics community in shock and disbelief.

Meanwhile, Kenya continued its dominance in the world of cross country running, securing multiple gold medals at the 2024 World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade. The powerhouse nation swept the top positions in the women’s senior race and also emerged victorious in the men’s Under-20 race and the mixed relay event, further solidifying its reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the sport.
