Tea City Council Reviews Feasibility Report for Indoor Sports Complex

The City of Tea is considering the construction of an 85,000-square-foot multipurpose indoor sports complex to attract sports enthusiasts from across the country. The feasibility report, prepared by Pinnacle Indoor Sports, outlines the potential features of the facility, including convertible hard court spaces for basketball and volleyball, a synthetic turf field, an elevated walking track, and various multipurpose areas.

Located behind the Casey’s at Interstate 29 and Lincoln County Highway 106, the proposed location was chosen strategically to accommodate potential future expansions. The report highlights the growing demand for indoor sports facilities in the Tea area, as well as the region’s appeal for sports tourism due to its proximity to Sioux Falls.

With a 4.5-hour drive-time radius reaching several metropolitan areas, the facility is expected to attract a significant number of visitors for tournaments and events. The economic impact of the complex is projected to exceed $318.9 million over the next 20 years, with annual expenditures on concessions, restaurants, hotels, and retail.

While the cost estimate for construction and operation was not provided, Pinnacle suggested the possibility of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district to cover most of the project’s expenses. The facility is also expected to create over 200 permanent jobs and generate additional household earnings in the surrounding counties.

In addition to sports events, the complex could host a variety of other activities, including food service events, parties, facility rentals, and corporate partnerships. The potential for economic growth and community development through the sports complex is promising, with the City of Tea likely to expand its hospitality and retail offerings to capitalize on the influx of visitors.

The Tea City Council has yet to take any action on the feasibility report, but the detailed 196-page document is available for review on their meeting agenda. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in the world of sports in Tea, South Dakota.
