Great Britain’s Squad Announcement for World Athletics Relays: CJ Ujah Returns After Doping Ban

Great Britain’s sprinter CJ Ujah has been given a second chance as he is included in the squad for the World Athletics Relays, marking his return to competition after serving a doping ban. Ujah was banned for 22 months after testing positive for prohibited substances at the Tokyo Olympics, but he was cleared of intentionally doping.

The World Athletics Relays, scheduled to take place in the Bahamas on 4-5 May, will also serve as the Olympic qualifying event for the relay competitions at Paris 2024. Ujah, whose ban ended on 5 June 2023, will join the men’s 4x100m relay squad alongside Zharnel Hughes, Richard Kilty, and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.

Despite facing challenges in recent years, the relay squad is determined to work together and reach their goals. Darren Campbell, head of sprints, hurdles, and relays for UK Athletics, expressed confidence in the team’s motivation and commitment.

In addition to the men’s squad, the women’s 4x100m bronze medal-winning quartet from Tokyo will see Asha Philip and Imani-Lara Lansiquot in the lineup. However, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita are not included in the squad.

Great Britain’s full squad for the World Athletics Relays features a mix of experienced and emerging talent across various events. With a strong team in place, British athletics fans can look forward to an exciting competition as the athletes aim to secure their spots for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
