Kansas Athletics Rental Agreement for Children’s Mercy Park Football Games
Kansas Athletics has made a strategic move to host two football games at Sporting Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Park during the upcoming season, paying a rental fee of $100,000 for each game. However, this fee does not cover staffing expenses, which could add an additional $150,000 to the overall costs. The revenue-sharing agreement between Kansas Athletics and Sporting KC also includes various key breakdowns.
With construction ongoing at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, the Jayhawks had to seek alternative venues for their home games in 2024. Two games will be held at Children’s Mercy Park, while the remaining four will take place at Arrowhead Stadium.
The revenue-sharing breakdown includes Athletics retaining 100% of the games’ net ticket revenue, while Sporting KC will retain revenue from certain suite holders. KU must share 20% of merchandise revenue and cover staffing costs up to $150,000. Any cancellation after March 1 incurs a $30,000 fee.
The university has yet to provide the agreement with Arrowhead Stadium due to personnel limitations. However, David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is set to reopen for the 2025 season as part of a major project.
The 2024 football season kicks off at Children’s Mercy Park, showcasing the Jayhawks’ adaptability and commitment to providing fans with an exciting game day experience. With strategic partnerships and careful planning, Kansas Athletics is ensuring a successful season despite the challenges of stadium construction.
