Mondo to Supply Custom Purple Track for Paris Olympics: Could Be Fastest Yet
Italian firm Mondo is set to make a splash at this summer’s Paris Olympics with a custom purple track that promises to be the fastest yet for athletes vying for glory on the biggest stage in sports. Based in the picturesque town of Alba in Piedmont, Mondo has a rich history of providing top-notch tracks for major sporting events, with their first track debuting at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
For the upcoming Paris Olympics, Mondo has developed the Mondotrack EB, which will be the stage for 46 out of the 48 athletics events at the iconic Stade de France. The track is expected to host some of the biggest names in athletics, including reigning women’s world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson, as they chase Olympic gold.
Mondo claims that the Mondotrack EB will outperform the track used at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where three world records were shattered. The company’s vice president, Maurizio Stroppiana, highlighted the design improvements that reduce energy loss for athletes, enhancing their performance on the track.
While Mondo has pushed the boundaries of track technology, they have also prioritized athlete safety and performance. Research and development manager Andrea Marenghi emphasized the strict criteria set by the International Olympic Committee to safeguard athletes’ health and technique.
In a bold move, the Paris track will feature a striking purple color scheme, a departure from the traditional terracotta tracks. This unique design choice, featuring two shades of purple for contrast, aims to enhance the visual appeal of the competition for viewers worldwide.
Moreover, the track’s sustainability has been a key focus, with up to 50% of its components being renewable or recycled. Mondo’s commitment to innovation and eco-friendliness sets a new standard for future Olympic tracks.
As the countdown to the Paris Olympics begins, all eyes will be on the Mondotrack EB and the athletes who will write their names in history on its purple surface.
