Rickea Jackson Named TSWA Women’s College Basketball Player of the Year
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee women’s basketball star Rickea Jackson has been honored as the TSWA Women’s College Basketball Player of the Year in the state, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced on Wednesday. Jackson joins a prestigious list of Lady Vols who have received this accolade, including Rennia Davis and Candace Parker.
Standing at 6-foot-2, Jackson had an outstanding season, averaging 20.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in 2023-24, leading the SEC in scoring. Her impressive performance earned her multiple awards, including AP/USBWA/WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, All-SEC First Team, and Cheryl Miller Award finalist. She was also selected as the No. 4 overall pick by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
During the NCAA Tournament, Jackson continued to shine, averaging 29.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting at an incredible efficiency. Despite overcoming an early season leg injury, she managed to score in double figures in 24 out of 25 games, with 13 games of 20 or more points and two games with over 30 points.
Jackson’s impressive career at UT has solidified her as one of the top players in Lady Vols history. She ranks fourth in career scoring average behind legends like Patricia Roberts, Cindy Brogdon, and Chamique Holdsclaw. Her impact on the court has been undeniable, as she has become a four-time All-America honorable mention selection, three-time All-SEC performer, and two-time Cheryl Miller Award finalist.
