Great Britain Names Defending Champions for World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan
The Great Britain team for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan has been announced, and it includes six defending champions who will be looking to add to their impressive medal haul.
Wheelchair racer Hannah Cockroft, who has already won an incredible 14 world titles, will be aiming for gold in both the 100m and 800m events at the championships. Joining her are javelin thrower Hollie Arnold and shot putter Aled Sion Davies, who will be looking to add to their five world titles each.
The team also includes high jumper Jonathan Broom-Edwards, shot putter Sabrina Fortune, and javelin thrower Dan Pembroke, all of whom are current world champions in their respective events. Pembroke, in particular, will be looking to build on his success after winning his maiden world title in Paris last year.
Last year, Great Britain finished fourth in the medal table at the World Para Athletics Championships, winning a total of 29 medals, including 10 golds. With such a strong team heading to Kobe, there is no doubt that they will be aiming to improve on that performance this year.
Head of Paralympic performance, Tom Paulson, highlighted the importance of these championships as a crucial part of the athletes’ preparation for the Paris Paralympics later this year.
