University of Tennessee Men’s Basketball Signs Transfer Forward Felix Okpara from Ohio State

The University of Tennessee men’s basketball team has added a formidable new player to their roster with the signing of forward Felix Okpara, a transfer from Ohio State. Okpara, a 6-foot-11, 235-pounder from Lagos, Nigeria, brings with him two years of collegiate eligibility and a reputation as one of the nation’s premier rim protectors.

Head coach Rick Barnes expressed his excitement about Okpara joining the Volunteers, praising his defensive skills, rebounding ability, and scoring versatility. Okpara’s impressive stats from his time at Ohio State speak for themselves, with averages of 5.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. He shot an outstanding 58.6 percent from the field and showcased his ability to dominate on both ends of the court.

In his sophomore season at Ohio State, Okpara started in 34 of 35 games, averaging 6.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. He excelled in the NIT tournament, averaging 14.0 points on 59.4 percent shooting over the final three games. Okpara’s performance on the court earned him recognition as one of the top shot blockers in the Big Ten and the country.

As a highly touted recruit out of high school, Okpara brings a wealth of talent and potential to the Tennessee basketball program. His addition to the team adds depth to the frontcourt and enhances the Volunteers’ chances of success in the upcoming seasons.

With Okpara joining fellow newcomers Bishop Boswell and Darlinstone Dubar, the Volunteers are poised to make a strong impact in the 2024-25 season. Fans can follow @Vol_Hoops on social media to stay updated on all the latest news and updates from the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team.
