Brent Rooker Makes History with Two Homers in One Inning as Athletics Crush Marlins

In a historic performance, Brent Rooker of the Oakland Athletics made headlines by becoming the first player in nearly 30 years to hit two home runs in a single inning. Rooker’s incredible feat came in the third inning of the Athletics’ game against the Miami Marlins, helping lead his team to a dominant 20-4 victory and their sixth consecutive win.

The All-Star outfielder wasted no time in making an impact, launching a two-run homer off Marlins starter Trevor Rogers before adding a three-run shot off Darren McCaughan later in the same inning. Rooker’s impressive display of power at the plate set the tone for a record-breaking offensive performance by the Athletics, who set season highs for runs and hits with 21.

Rooker’s accomplishment puts him in elite company, as he becomes just the 60th player in major league history to hit two home runs in a single inning. The last Oakland player to achieve this feat was Mark McGwire in 1996, adding to the significance of Rooker’s achievement.

Teammate Brett Harris also had a memorable game, hitting two home runs of his own in just his second major league appearance. The offensive outburst, which included home runs from JJ Bleday and Shea Langeliers, was supported by a strong pitching performance from Paul Blackburn, who allowed just one run over seven innings.

The Athletics’ impressive win continues their remarkable turnaround from a dismal 2023 season, where they lost 112 games. With a record of 17-17, Oakland has already surpassed their win total from last year and is showing signs of a team on the rise.

As the Athletics look to build on their recent success, they will send RHP Joe Boyle to the mound in the series finale against the Marlins’ RHP Sixto Sánchez. With momentum on their side, Oakland will aim to extend their winning streak and continue their climb up the standings in the competitive AL West division.
