Carrie L. Bodkins Named Director of Athletics at Shepherd University
Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va has announced the appointment of Carrie L. Bodkins as its new Director of Athletics. Bodkins, who previously held the position of vice president of enrollment management and director of athletics at Alderson Broaddus University, brings a wealth of experience and a strong vision for the future of Shepherd’s athletic programs.
In addition to her role at Alderson Broaddus University, Bodkins also served as head volleyball coach, senior woman administrator, and instructor of physical education at Davis and Elkins College. Her diverse background in athletics and academia has prepared her well for this new leadership position at Shepherd University.
President Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix expressed her excitement about Bodkins joining the Shepherd University team, stating, “Carrie’s vision for athletics in an academic setting will enhance the experience of student-athletes, supporting their success in competition and in the classroom. She has a rich history of working collaboratively with coaches, faculty, and staff towards a common goal of advancing a university’s mission. We are excited for her to join us.”
Bodkins is eager to take on the challenge of overseeing Shepherd’s 16 varsity sports programs and is confident in the potential for athletic success at the university. “Shepherd University athletics has unlimited potential for being successful in Division II and the PSAC,” Bodkins said. “I am excited to build on the solid foundation we have at Shepherd University and anxious to catapult the department to the next level.”
With her extensive involvement in NCAA committees and her proven track record of success in athletic administration, Bodkins is well-equipped to lead Shepherd University’s athletic programs to new heights. Her appointment comes after the departure of former Director of Athletics Chauncey Winbush, who left to accept a position at Miami University of Ohio. Shepherd University is looking forward to a bright future under Bodkins’ leadership.
