ATHLETICS ANNOUNCE PLANS TO PLAY IN SACRAMENTO FOR NEXT THREE SEASONS
The Oakland Athletics have announced their plans to play in Sacramento for the next three seasons, as they prepare to leave Oakland and await the completion of their new stadium in Las Vegas. The team will be playing at Sutter Health Park, home of the Sacramento River Cats, from 2025-27, with an option for 2028.
Sutter Health Park is located across from the historic yellow Tower Bridge in Sacramento and has a seating capacity of 10,624, with the ability to hold up to 14,014 fans with lawn seating and standing room. The Athletics made the decision to move to Sacramento after being unable to reach an agreement to extend their lease in Oakland.
In other baseball news, Miami Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez will miss the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Pérez, who made his debut last May as the Marlins’ youngest starting pitcher, had a promising start to his career with a 5-3 record and a 2.36 ERA over his first 11 starts.
On the football front, linebacker Kyle Van Noy is returning to the Baltimore Ravens on a two-year, $9 million contract. Van Noy had a career-high nine sacks last season and played a key role in the Ravens’ defense.
In basketball, the New York Knicks will be without All-Star forward Julius Randle for the rest of the season as he undergoes shoulder surgery. The Knicks, who were surging before Randle’s injury in January, will have to adjust their lineup without their star player.
In tennis, top-seeded Jessica Pegula advanced to the quarterfinals of the Charleston Open, while Rafael Nadal pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters due to a lingering injury. The WTA Finals will be held in Saudi Arabia for the next three years, with a record prize money of $15.25 million.
Lastly, in hockey, the San Jose Sharks signed Quinnipiac forward Collin Graf to a three-year contract. Graf, who led Quinnipiac in scoring this season, will bring his offensive skills to the Sharks as they look to improve their roster for the upcoming season.
