Las Vegas Welcomes A’s Move with New Stadium on the Strip
The Oakland Athletics are set to make a historic move to Las Vegas, with MLB owners voting unanimously to approve the relocation. The team, which has a rich history of moving cities, will be the first MLB franchise to relocate since the Washington Nationals in 2005.
The move comes after Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo signed a bill pledging $380 million in taxpayer money to build a state-of-the-art $1.5 billion Major League Baseball stadium on the iconic Las Vegas Strip. The collaboration between BIG’s creativity and HNTB’s technical expertise promises a truly innovative and bold design, ensuring an unmatched fan experience.
Athletics Managing Partner and Owner John Fisher expressed his excitement for the move, stating, “We hope to add to the dynamic atmosphere and liveliness of the Las Vegas Strip, creating a welcoming environment for all of Southern Nevada.”
The approval of SB1, the bill calling for public funding of the A’s proposed stadium, came after additional amendments were included to benefit the local community. The franchise has committed to investing $2 million annually into the community, along with funding other small concessions.
Las Vegas has quickly become a hub for professional sports, with the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, and WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces already calling the city home. The addition of the Athletics will further solidify Las Vegas as a major sports destination.
As the A’s prepare for their move to Las Vegas, fans can look forward to a new era of baseball in the vibrant city, with a state-of-the-art stadium and a commitment to community investment.
