Sreeshankar Murali’s Paris 2024 Olympic Dream Shattered due to Knee Injury

Indian long-jumper Sreeshankar Murali’s hopes of competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris have been dashed due to a knee injury that requires surgery. The 25-year-old athlete, who had made the automatic cut in men’s long jump, announced the unfortunate news on Instagram, expressing his disappointment at having to let go of his dream.

Sreeshankar’s journey to the Olympics was a promising one, with notable achievements such as winning silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and clinching silver at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok last year. Despite facing challenges at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he had bounced back and even made it to the final at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.

In his emotional post, Sreeshankar acknowledged the setback but also showed resilience and determination to make a comeback. He emphasized the importance of accepting life’s challenges and moving forward with courage, embodying the “Mamba Mentality” that drives him to overcome obstacles.

With less than 100 days left for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Sreeshankar’s absence leaves a void in the Indian track and field contingent. Alongside Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena, he was one of the few athletes to have secured automatic qualification from India in their respective events.

As Sreeshankar embarks on the road to recovery, he has called for the support and prayers of his fans and well-wishers. Despite the setback, he remains determined to overcome this challenge and return stronger, ready to take on his biggest leap yet.

The Indian Express Pvt Ltd reported the news on April 18, 2024, marking a bittersweet moment in Sreeshankar’s athletic journey.
