Athletics to Temporarily Relocate to Sacramento Area for Next Three Seasons
The Oakland Athletics have announced a temporary relocation to the Sacramento area for the next three seasons after failing to reach an agreement with the City of Oakland. The team will be playing at Sutter Health Park, home of the Sacramento River Cats, starting in 2025.
In a joint statement with Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, the Athletics expressed excitement about the move to Sutter Health Park. Ranadive highlighted the opportunity for baseball fans to see MLB’s biggest stars in a more intimate setting, with hopes of positioning Sacramento for a permanent team in the future.
A’s owner John Fisher expressed gratitude to the Kings and the City of West Sacramento for hosting the team during the interim period while they work on completing their new ballpark in Las Vegas. The team will be dropping Oakland from its name and will be known simply as the A’s during their time in Sacramento.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred also acknowledged the plan, expressing appreciation to West Sacramento and Sutter Health Park for hosting the A’s during their transition period. Mayor Martha Guerrero of West Sacramento and Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg both released statements expressing excitement and conflicting emotions about the move, respectively.
Fans interested in attending the A’s games in Sacramento can already sign up for tickets on the MLB website. The team’s relocation to the Sacramento area marks a significant moment for both cities and sets the stage for an exciting chapter in professional sports in the region.
