Winston-Salem State Football Program Receives Scholarship Boost and Summer School Support

Coach Robert Massey of Winston-Salem State University’s football program has reason to celebrate as the school administration has added six more scholarships to his program, bringing the total to 26. This increase in scholarships will help build the depth of the team, a crucial factor in the competitive world of college football.

Massey expressed his gratitude for the additional scholarships, highlighting the impact it will have on the team’s performance. He mentioned that the extra funding will also be used to support summer school for the players, allowing them to stay on campus and continue their training throughout the offseason.

The Rams, coming off a 4-6 season, are looking to improve their record and compete at a higher level in the CIAA. Massey emphasized the importance of building a strong roster with quality scholarship players, especially after losing key players to injuries early in the previous season.

In addition to the scholarship news, Massey is also making strategic plans for the upcoming season. With uncertainty surrounding a scheduled game against St. Augustine’s University, Massey is actively seeking alternative opponents to ensure a full season for the Rams.

The team is gearing up for a spring game at Carver High School on April 13, providing fans with a preview of the upcoming season. The Rams are also set to participate in a joint practice with Catawba College, taking advantage of new NCAA rules for spring practices.

As the Rams continue their preparations for the upcoming season, the addition of scholarships and strategic planning by Coach Massey are positive signs for the program’s future success. With a renewed focus on building depth and developing young talent, Winston-Salem State University’s football team is poised for a strong showing in the upcoming season.
