Nebraska Football Team to Switch Sidelines for Home Games in 2024

Nebraska Football Team Makes Sideline Switch for Competitive Advantage

In a surprising move, the Nebraska athletic department announced that the Husker football team will be switching sidelines for home games, moving from the east sideline to the west sideline. The decision was made after soliciting feedback from coaches and staff, who believe that the west sideline provides a competitive advantage for the team.

Former Nebraska A.D. Trev Alberts had hinted at this change back in October 2023, and now it has been officially confirmed by the program. The switch will not affect fans sitting along the west sideline during the upcoming 2024 football season.

The decision to move to the west sideline comes after a 45-7 loss to Michigan, where the Huskers suffered in 96-degree temperatures on the east sideline while their opponents enjoyed a cooler environment on the west sideline. Reports of Michigan stealing opposing teams’ signs during the 2023 season also played a role in the decision.

In the past, Nebraska had used the east sideline since the Bob Devaney era began in 1962. However, former coach Scott Frost had briefly moved the team to the west sideline during the COVID season in 2020 to protect their signals. Now, with the Tunnel Walk entrance switching to the northeast tunnel, the team will once again be making the move to the west sideline.

This change is expected to make it harder for opposing coaches to see NU signals and provide the team with a strategic advantage on the field. Fans can look forward to a new perspective and a return to the traditional gallop across the field for the Tunnel Walk entrance.
