Louis Rees-Zammit Signs Lucrative Three-Year Deal with Kansas City Chiefs After Switching from Rugby to NFL

Louis Rees-Zammit has made a bold career move by signing a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs after leaving rugby to pursue a career in the NFL. The former Wales and British & Irish Lions winger has seen a significant increase in his earnings, with his new contract worth almost triple what he was making in rugby.

Having previously played for Gloucester Rugby and represented Wales, Rees-Zammit made the decision to switch sports earlier this year and underwent an intense 10-week football course through the NFL’s International Pathway Program. His impressive performance at an NFL Pro Day, including a speedy 40-yard dash time of 4.44 seconds, attracted the attention of several teams before ultimately choosing the Chiefs.

The 20-year-old athlete is set to join the Chiefs’ summer camp as he aims to secure a spot on the active roster for the 2024 NFL season. His new contract, valued at $900,000 annually, represents a significant salary increase compared to his previous rugby deal.

Rees-Zammit’s transition to the NFL has been met with excitement from both the player and the Chiefs organization. The team took to social media to welcome him to “Chiefs Kingdom” and showcase his signing at Arrowhead Stadium, where he was in awe of the massive arena compared to his previous rugby stadium.

With his sights set on becoming a versatile player like NFL stars Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Austin Ekeler, Rees-Zammit is ready to embrace the challenge of adapting to a new sport and position on the field. His success in making the switch from rugby to the NFL could pave the way for more athletes to follow suit in the future.
