OU Football’s Spring Game Delayed Due to Inclement Weather
The anticipation for the 2024 Red-White scrimmage for OU football fans has been building up, but Mother Nature had other plans. Due to inclement weather, the start of the spring game has been pushed back an hour and a half, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
In a press release issued by Oklahoma, the decision to delay the game was made due to anticipated rain and lightning earlier in the day. Fans are encouraged to bring their rain gear as there is still a possibility of rainy weather when the game finally kicks off. The gates of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium will now open at 1 p.m. to accommodate the new schedule.
Despite the weather setback, Sooners coach Brent Venables expressed his excitement for the game and urged fans to create an amazing environment to support the players. With about 100 recruits from across the country in town, Venables sees this as an opportunity to showcase the passion and support of OU football fans.
In addition to the delay of the spring game, the “Party at the Palace” pregame fan fest has been canceled. The OU softball schedule has also been adjusted, with the game against Houston still scheduled for 6 p.m. at Love’s Field, but the ceremony for unveiling the new statue of head coach Patty Gasso has been postponed.
OU athletics department assured fans that they will continue to monitor the forecasts for Saturday and any further schedule changes will be communicated with as much notice as possible. Despite the weather challenges, the excitement and anticipation for the spring game and softball match remain high among fans.
