Steelers Host First-Ever American Football Kicking Clinic in Ireland at Sport Ireland Campus
The Pittsburgh Steelers brought a taste of American football to Ireland on Tuesday, April 16, with their first-ever Kicking Clinic at the Sport Ireland Campus in Dublin. Former Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham and punter Jordan Berry, along with Steelers Director of Business Development & Strategy Dan Rooney, led the free clinic, joined by Galway native Tadhg Leader of Leader Kicking.
The day started with clinics for aspiring Irish kickers and punters, where Berry and Suisham provided hands-on coaching and valuable tips. The highlight of the day was a youth clinic for young athletes from across Ireland, who received top-class coaching from the former Steelers players.
“It was great to be out here with the guys. They’re really dedicated to the game, and it’s great to see so much interest in American football,” said Berry, reflecting on the experience.
Over 25 participants took part in the clinics, including standout performers like Monaghan’s Rory Beggan, Wicklow’s Mark Jackson, and Galway’s Darragh Leader. Jackson was named the Kicking Clinic “Champion” for his exceptional performance.
Berry praised the talent in Ireland, noting the strong kicking background in sports like soccer, rugby, and Irish football. He encouraged the athletes to continue honing their skills and pursuing opportunities in their careers.
The Kicking Clinic is part of the Steelers’ efforts to expand their brand in Ireland and Northern Ireland through the NFL’s Global Markets Program. Rooney emphasized the success of the event, highlighting the passion and talent of the Irish athletes who participated.
Overall, the Steelers’ Kicking Clinic was a resounding success, showcasing the growing interest in American football in Ireland and providing valuable coaching to aspiring kickers and punters.
