Rhett Jones Named Declo High School’s New Football Coach
Declo High School welcomed a familiar face as their new football coach on Monday afternoon. Rhett Jones, who served as the offensive line coach in 2023, was officially announced as the Hornets’ new head coach to a room full of eager players.
Dressed in a black dress shirt and orange tie, Jones expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and his excitement to lead the team. Taking over from Josh Stewart, who led the Hornets to a 35-17 record and a state runners-up finish in 2023, Jones is ready to continue the team’s success.
With the Hornets aiming for their 11th straight conference title in the upcoming season, Jones assured the players of a smooth transition and a rigorous training schedule ahead. Despite the loss of key players like quarterback Will Garrard, the team still boasts talented returnees like Gavin Rasmussen and Renan Loper.
Jones, a Minico High School graduate, brings a physical and strategic approach to the game, emphasizing control of tempo and clock management. His goal is to instill a competitive spirit in the team and keep them in top physical condition throughout the offseason.
Declo activities director Jennifer Murdock expressed her confidence in Jones’ commitment to the team and the community. With a focus on strength training and overall athletic development, Jones aims to keep the Hornets competitive and in the hunt for a state championship.
As the Hornets gear up for the upcoming season, under the leadership of Coach Jones, the players are ready to hit the field and make their mark in the conference once again.
