Revolutionizing Football in Basingstoke: Meet the Turtles Flag American Football Team

The Basingstoke Turtles are making waves in the town’s sports scene, heralding an exciting new era for football enthusiasts. The team, which was formed just over six months ago, has already played its inaugural match against the Woking Whirlwind, despite facing a tough loss.

Flag football, a rapidly growing sport in the UK, is set to join the LA Olympics 2028 roster, further solidifying its popularity. The Turtles, who train every other Sunday at War Memorial Park, are determined to make their mark in the sport and are open to welcoming new players of all skill levels.

Founder and general manager, Alex Underwood, expressed his excitement about the team’s progress, stating, “Just over six months ago I wanted to link up with other enthusiasts for a throw about in the park so placed an ad online, I had no idea our first meeting of three players would transform into the development of an entire team.”

With a mix of experienced players and rookies, the Turtles are focused on making flag football accessible to all age groups in Basingstoke. Alex, who was also the founder of the Southern Seminoles American football team in the 90s, is passionate about growing the sport in the community.

For those interested in joining the team, the Basingstoke Turtles Flag American Football page on Facebook is the place to go. With a welcoming atmosphere and a commitment to growth and development, the Turtles are set to make a lasting impact on the football scene in Basingstoke.
