Katie Hope to Represent Scotland in Four Nations Championships
Helensburgh Tennis Club member Katie Hope has been selected to represent Scotland in the over-50s ladies team at the upcoming Four Nations Championships. This will mark Katie’s first senior cap for Scotland, a remarkable achievement 35 years after she first played for the country at the junior level.
The tournament, set to take place in Bolton at the beginning of May, will see Scotland compete against England, Ireland, and Wales. Katie, who is currently the west of Scotland over-50s single and doubles champion, is ranked 11th in Britain in her age group.
Reflecting on her journey in tennis, Katie shared, “I started playing tennis at a young age of four or five on the red blaes courts at Helensburgh and have continued playing all my life. I got into coaching as a career after having kids and needing a job that I could work my own hours and which was something that I enjoyed doing, so becoming a tennis coach was the perfect job.”
Having won the Helensburgh ladies’ club championships more than 20 times, Katie has a wealth of experience in the sport. She has represented Scotland at both junior and senior levels in the past and is now excited to make her mark in the over-50s category.
Katie’s recent travels to New Zealand and Australia, where she witnessed top tennis players in action, have further fueled her passion for the sport. She encourages anyone interested in learning tennis later in life to join Helensburgh Tennis Club, where a dedicated coaching team caters to all abilities.
As Katie gears up to represent Scotland in the Four Nations Championships, her story serves as an inspiration to tennis enthusiasts of all ages.
