High School Baseball Roundup: Pine River-Backus Tigers and Aitkin Gobblers Dominate on April 24
The Pine River-Backus Tigers showcased their offensive firepower in a dominant 10-4 victory over the Crosby-Ironton Rangers on Wednesday, April 24. Chance Abraham led the charge with a stellar performance, doubling, tripling, and driving in four runs while also scoring twice himself. Eli Abraham also had a standout game, going 3-4 with three RBIs and a run.
On the mound, Koal Oberfell delivered a solid performance for the Tigers, allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits and two walks. He struck out four batters in 6.2 innings to secure the victory. For the Rangers, Ky Gressman and Jairus Millsop each had a pair of hits and an RBI in the losing effort.
With the win, Pine River-Backus improved to 2-4 on the season, while Crosby-Ironton fell to 1-4. The Tigers will look to carry this momentum into their next game as they host Lake of the Woods on Monday, April 29. Meanwhile, the Rangers will aim to bounce back when they take on Detroit Lakes on the same day.
In another game on the same day, the Aitkin Gobblers cruised to a 15-0 victory over the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels. John Pelarski led the offensive onslaught with a 2-4 performance, including a double, four RBIs, and two runs. Cole Trotter and Braxton Huse also contributed to the Gobblers’ offensive outburst with multi-hit games and RBIs.
On the mound, Nolan Dotzler was stellar for Aitkin, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings. Brandon Kunz provided solid relief, striking out one batter in a hitless inning. The Gobblers improved to 2-2 on the season with the win and will look to continue their winning ways against Crosby-Ironton on Tuesday, April 30.
