The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced the selection of 50 talented boxers to represent India at the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championship 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Among the selected boxers is the promising Preeti Pawar, who will be competing in the 54kg category and has already secured a spot in the Paris Olympics after winning a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games.

Preeti will lead India’s charge in the U-22 category alongside Alfiya Pathan, the former youth world champion and gold medallist at the 2022 Asian elite boxing championship in the 81kg category. The team also includes reigning youth world champions Devika Ghorpade and Vishvanath Suresh, as well as senior national champions Prachi, Akash Gorkha, and Jugnoo.

The selection process was based on the boxers’ performances in trials conducted by the BFI at the Army Institute of Sports Pune and the NCOE Rohtak. According to Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Secretary General of BFI, the tournament presents a significant opportunity for these young boxers to showcase their skills and gain valuable international exposure.

In the youth women’s section, reigning junior world champions Nisha and Akansha will lead India’s challenge along with Asian youth champion Nikita Chand. The youth men’s section will feature junior world championships silver medallists Jatin, Sahil, and Hemant Sangwan.

The ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championship will see over 400 boxers from more than 24 countries competing across 25 weight categories. It promises to be a thrilling competition with India’s talented boxers aiming to make their mark on the international stage.
