Saracens Director of Rugby Urges Swift Resolution for Maro Itoje and Jamie George’s Hybrid Contracts with England
Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall is eager for a quick resolution as star players Maro Itoje and Jamie George are yet to be offered finalised hybrid contracts by England. The duo, who have already agreed new deals with Saracens, are waiting for the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to finalize their contracts, which would see their salaries topped up by the RFU.
The RFU had announced plans to introduce approximately 25 hybrid contracts worth around £150,000 each, with clubs covering the rest of the wages. However, Itoje and George are the only players to have been presented with such contracts so far. McCall emphasized the importance of getting the contracts signed quickly, stating, “The sooner all that can get done, the better for everybody. It’s pretty important that it gets sorted as quickly as possible.”
A spokesperson for the RFU reassured that the enhanced elite player squad contracts are on track to be announced in the autumn as part of the new Professional Game Partnership. Meanwhile, England is gearing up for their summer tour in 2024, with matches scheduled against Japan and New Zealand.
As fans eagerly await the resolution of Itoje and George’s contracts, the focus remains on the upcoming international fixtures and the impact these key players will have on the squad. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as negotiations continue between the players, clubs, and the RFU.
