Jannik Sinner wins Miami Open men’s title in straight sets
Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner has added another feather to his cap by clinching the Miami Open men’s title in style. The 22-year-old rising star defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, 6-3 6-1, to claim his second Masters 1,000 title and third overall title of the year.
Sinner, who had previously finished as runner-up in Miami in 2021 and 2023, showcased his dominance on the court throughout the tournament. With this victory, he will rise to a career-high second in the world rankings, becoming the first Italian to enter the top two since the ATP rankings were first published in 1973.
Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Sinner expressed his joy and gratitude, stating, “It has been a very special week for me. I’m very happy to be number two in the world. It is just a number, for me most important is trying to execute my gameplan and I managed to do this.”
Despite the loss, Dimitrov put up a strong performance throughout the tournament, defeating top seed Carlos Alcaraz and German fourth seed Alexander Zverev on his way to the final. The 32-year-old Bulgarian will rise to a world ranking of nine, marking his return to the top 10 for the first time since 2018.
In the women’s category, American Danielle Collins emerged victorious by defeating Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina with a score of 7-5 6-3 in the final.
