Burghill, Tillington and Weobley Clinch Herefordshire Indoor Cricket League Title
Burghill, Tillington and Weobley have once again emerged victorious in the Herefordshire Indoor Cricket League, securing their second consecutive title. The team not only clinched the league trophy but also triumphed in the cup competition earlier in the winter, completing a clean sweep of victories.
In the final game of the season, Burghill faced off against Dales and emerged triumphant with a commanding 50-run win. Batting first, Burghill posted a formidable total of 147 for 4, with 15-year-old Archie Stevenson leading the charge with a top score of 37. Stevenson received valuable support from Arjun Singh (27 not out) and captain Jake Kinderman (22).
Dales struggled in their chase, eventually being bowled out for 97 with nearly three overs to spare. Despite a spirited 43 from Jonathan Jones, the team failed to build partnerships, succumbing to the bowling attack led by Stevenson, Mohammed Hassan, and Arjun Singh, with Kinderman also contributing with tight overs.
Sporting their new colored kit, the Burghill players looked sharp and cohesive in the final game. The squad, which included the likes of Archie and George Stevenson, Hassan, Singh, and Alex Powell, showcased their talent and teamwork throughout the season.
Additionally, the club fielded a ‘B’ team comprising young Afghan asylum seekers, who finished a commendable third in the league. The juniors gained valuable experience, setting the stage for the upcoming outdoor season.
Goodrich secured the second spot in the league standings, sandwiched between the two Burghill sides. The success of indoor cricket in Hereford would not have been possible without the dedication of individuals like Phil Mellish and umpires David Faulkner and Pete Hoare, to whom Burghill extends their gratitude.
