Impressive Start for Team India at Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Dubai
Deepanshu Sharma and Rohan Yadav made India proud on the first day of the 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Dubai, as they clinched gold and silver respectively in the men’s javelin event. Sharma’s impressive throw of 70.29m secured him the top spot on the podium, while Yadav’s distance of 70.03m earned him the silver medal.
Adding to India’s medal tally, Priyanshu also claimed a silver in the men’s 1500m with a time of 3:50.85. Ritik, in the men’s discus throw, secured another silver for the team. However, Prachi Ankush Devkar narrowly missed out on a bronze in the women’s 3,000m, finishing in fourth place.
Indian middle distance and sprinters also had a successful day in the heats, with Laxita Vinod Sandliea and Tanvi Malik advancing to the medal round in the women’s 800m event. In the women’s 400m, Anushka Dattatray Kumbhar and SAI Sangeetha Dodla also secured their spots in the medal round.
In the men’s 400m heats, Aman Choudhary impressed with a top finish in his heat, clocking 48 seconds to advance to the medal round. Female athletes Jeyavindhiya Jegadish and Shreeya Rajesh also advanced to the medal round in the 400m hurdles event.
Ritik, representing the National Centre of Excellence in Punjab, showcased his talent in the discus throw event with a series of impressive throws, ultimately securing a silver medal for India.
With such strong performances on the first day of the championships, Indian athletes are poised to continue their success and bring home more medals in the coming days.
