Indian Athletes Shine on Opening Day of 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Dubai
Indian athletes made a strong start on the opening day of the 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Dubai, with Deepanshu Sharma leading the charge by securing the gold medal in the men’s javelin event. Deepanshu impressed with a throw of 70.29m, edging out his compatriot Rohan Yadav who settled for silver with a distance of 70.03m.
In the men’s 1500m, Priyanshu also put up a commendable performance to claim the silver medal after clocking 3:50.85. The morning session saw Ritik bagging the silver in the men’s discus throw, while Prachi Ankush Devkar narrowly missed out on a bronze in the women’s 3000m, finishing fourth.
Indian middle-distance and sprinters showcased their talent in the heats, with Laxita Vinod Sandliea and Tanvi Malik advancing to the medal round in the women’s 800m event. Laxita finished second in her heat with a time of 2:09.39, while Tanvi clocked 2:12.82 to secure fourth place in her heat.
Anushka Dattatray Kumbhar and Sangeetha Dodla also impressed in the women’s 400m heats, with Anushka finishing first in her heat with a time of 55.75 seconds, and Sangeetha clocking 56.21 seconds to secure second place in her heat.
In the men’s 400m heats, Aman Choudhary showcased his prowess by clocking 48 seconds to top his heat and secure a spot in the medal round. Female athletes Jeyavindhiya Jegadish and Shreeya Rajesh also advanced to the medal round in the 400m hurdles event.
Overall, it was a promising start for the Indian contingent at the championships, with several athletes showcasing their potential on the international stage.
