Solva-born Beckett Prepares for Olympic Games with Racing in Hyeres
Solva-born sailor Beckett is gearing up for his first Olympic Games this summer, and he is currently honing his skills just an hour north of where the Olympic sailing will take place in Marseille. The 28-year-old recently defended his Trofeo Princess Sofia title for the second time, showcasing his prowess on the water.
“This is the last big event before the Olympics, a chance for me to fine-tune my skills and test out new ideas,” Beckett stated. He emphasized the importance of decision-making and boat speed, highlighting the need for a balance of fitness, skill, and awareness in his preparations.
Despite narrowly missing out on Tokyo 2020, Beckett has established himself as one of the top ILCA 7 sailors in the world. With world silver and Olympic test event silver under his belt, he is set to represent Team GB at Paris 2024. In Hyeres, he will face off against other nations already qualified for the Games, focusing on improving his performance while keeping an eye on the results.
Beckett acknowledged the significance of racing in a large fleet, where mistakes can have a greater impact on the outcome. He emphasized the importance of practicing under pressure and maintaining a competitive mindset while striving to learn and improve.
As he prepares for the Olympics, Beckett remains focused on the task at hand, balancing his competitive drive with a commitment to growth and development. Follow the British Sailing Team on Instagram for more updates on Beckett’s journey to the Games.
