High School Baseball Recap: Murray County Central Tops Edgerton/SWC 8-6 in Red Rock Conference Showdown
In a thrilling matchup between the top two teams in the Red Rock Conference, the Murray County Central Rebels emerged victorious over Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian with an 8-6 win on Tuesday.
The Rebels improved their season record to 5-1 and maintained their undefeated streak against conference opponents. On the other hand, E/SWC now stands at 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Both teams got off to a hot start, each scoring three runs in the first inning. The Flying Dutchmen then added three more runs in the second inning to take the lead. However, the Rebels responded immediately with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second to take a 7-6 lead.
MCC extended their lead with another run in the fifth inning and managed to hold onto it for the remainder of the game.
Owen Gillette led the offensive charge for the Rebels, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and five RBIs. Krew Schneider pitched four innings and earned the win, striking out seven batters and contributing an RBI at the plate. Teague Meyer closed out the game with two strikeouts.
For E/SWC, Joshua Van Dam pitched well with five strikeouts and also went 2-for-4 at the plate. Despite their efforts, the Flying Dutchmen fell short as the Rebels secured the win.
Both teams are scheduled to play again on Thursday, with MCC hosting Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey and E/SWC traveling to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. It was a hard-fought battle between two talented teams, but in the end, it was the Rebels who came out on top.
