Tom Roebuck scores hat-trick as Sale thrash Exeter 41-5
Tom Roebuck’s hat-trick heroics propelled Sale to a resounding 41-5 victory over Exeter, putting them back in the Premiership play-off mix. Roebuck, who has now scored five tries in his last three matches, was instrumental in Sale’s impressive bonus-point win.
The Sharks, who had not tasted victory since December, ran in six tries in total to close the gap on the top four teams in the league. Despite losing influential flanker Ernst van Rhyn to injury early on, Sale dominated the match with their clinical finishing and solid defense.
Exeter, on the other hand, struggled to impose themselves on the game and were punished for their indiscipline, giving away seven penalties in the first 30 minutes. Former Exeter player Luke Cowan-Dickie added to Sale’s tally with a try from a maul, further extending their lead.
Roebuck’s early try set the tone for Sale’s dominant performance, with the winger scoring two more tries to complete his hat-trick. Despite Exeter’s efforts, they were unable to contain Sale’s attacking prowess, with Raffi Quirke and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso also getting on the scoresheet.
Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson praised his team’s effort and energy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their momentum in the remaining matches. Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter, on the other hand, expressed disappointment in his team’s performance and lack of discipline.
With the win, Sale now sit just five points off the play-off places, while Exeter remain in fifth place with four rounds of matches left to play. The race for the Premiership title is heating up, and Sale’s emphatic victory has certainly thrown them back into contention.
