Patrick Mahomes Considering Return to Baseball: A Look at His Past and Future Opportunities
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not just a football star, but also a talented baseball player. Before making a name for himself in the NFL, Mahomes was a standout baseball player at Whitehouse High School in Texas, following in the footsteps of his father who pitched in MLB.
Despite his success in football, Mahomes has never lost his love for baseball. In a recent interview with Time Magazine, Mahomes revealed that he has been in talks with the Kansas City Royals about potentially returning to the sport he once excelled in.
“I’ve talked to the Royals,” Mahomes said. “And if I can maybe go out to spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’ll get it approved by the Chiefs and everything like that. But maybe one of these years I go out there and see what I got. See if I can still hit the ball or pitch or whatever that is. Maybe not in the games, but I can at least practice with them.”
As a part-owner of the Royals, Mahomes already has some influence within the organization. Royals general manager JJ Picollo expressed his excitement at the prospect of Mahomes returning to baseball, stating, “We’d love to have him come. He’s welcome anytime. He’s part owner of the team, he can do whatever he wants. It would be great. It’d be fun to have him around.”
While the timing may not always align due to Mahomes’ football commitments, the idea of the Super Bowl-winning quarterback stepping back onto the baseball field is an exciting prospect for both fans of the Chiefs and the Royals. Mahomes’ talent and passion for baseball could potentially lead to a remarkable comeback in the sport he once dominated.
