ESPN’s Jeff Passan Skeptical of Oakland Athletics Relocating to Las Vegas
ESPN’s Jeff Passan is the latest voice to cast doubt on the proposed relocation of the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas. In a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Passan shared his skepticism about the move to Sin City.
The Athletics and Sacramento Kings recently announced that the A’s will play at Sutter Health Park from 2025-28, with an option for a fourth year. Sutter Health Park is currently home to the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
During the press conference announcing the temporary move, Sacramento Kings and River Cats owner Vivek Ranadive revealed that he has had conversations with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, but there is no guarantee that Sacramento will receive an expansion team.
Passan expressed his doubts about the Las Vegas relocation, citing the city’s history of failed deals. Despite Major League Baseball’s unanimous approval of the move last November, Passan emphasized that until construction actually begins on the proposed $1.5 billion stadium at the site of the Tropicana Hotel, he remains skeptical.
“Until a shovel goes into the ground and steel beams are moved, I’m not going to say a single thing about the Oakland A’s becoming the Las Vegas A’s because we are a long ways off,” Passan stated.
