Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu has once again proven her prowess with the bat, reclaiming the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings after a stunning 195 not out against South Africa. The left-hander’s ninth ODI century, the highest score in a successful chase in Women’s ODIs, propelled her past England’s Natalie Sciver-Brunt to the number one position.

Athapaththu’s incredible innings not only showcased her skill but also highlighted her ability to lead from the front as the captain of the Sri Lankan team. Her performance has solidified her reputation as one of the best batters in the women’s game.

Joining Athapaththu in the rankings climb is South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who moved up two places to third after her unbeaten 184 in the same match. West Indies captain Hayley Mathews also made significant strides, moving up to 11th among batters and second in the all-rounders’ list after a stellar performance against Pakistan.

The rankings shake-up also saw former captains Stafanie Taylor and Bismah Maroof making gains in the batting rankings, along with other rising stars like Nilakshi de Silva, Shemaine Campbell, and Chinelle Henry.

On the bowling front, Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal made a significant jump from 23rd to 17th position after an impressive showing against the West Indies. As the international cricket season heats up, all eyes will be on Athapaththu and the other top-ranked players as they continue to showcase their skills on the field. Sri Lanka’s captain has once again proven why she is a force to be reckoned with in the world of women’s cricket.
