Saints Sports Festival Concludes with Exciting Hockey Action
The Saints Sports Festival concluded in Sandton over the weekend, with more than 1,100 learners from 85 schools participating in the multisport event. The hockey action was particularly exciting, with strong performances from both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
The host school’s boys’ team kicked off the tournament with a 2-2 draw against St Andrew’s College, while the girls’ team played to a goalless draw against Springfield Convent. As the festival progressed, the girls’ team showed their dominance with impressive wins over Bethlehem Voortrekker and DSG Makhanda.
Although the boys’ team faced a tough loss against Hilton College, they bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Clifton College on the final day of the festival. Menlopark, who recently defeated Glenwood 4-0 in the Coastal Cup, continued their winning streak with a 5-1 victory over the Durban school.
In other matches, St David’s Marist Inanda secured a 3-0 win over Glenwood, while St Andrew’s College emerged victorious with a 3-1 win against Affies. Beaulieu College also notched up their second win of the festival by beating Brescia House 2-0.
The festival showcased some thrilling hockey action, with teams giving their all on the field. The results from the final day of the festival highlighted the talent and determination of the young athletes who participated.
