Illinois Guard Luke Goode Enters NCAA Transfer Portal as Graduate Transfer
In a surprising turn of events, Illinois Fighting Illini guard Luke Goode has announced his decision to enter the NCAA college basketball transfer portal as a graduate transfer. This news comes after Goode started in seven games for the Fighting Illini during the 2023-24 season, averaging 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 38.9 percent from beyond the arc.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Goode expressed his gratitude towards the University of Illinois and its fan base, acknowledging the endless opportunities he has been provided during his time with the team. However, he has made the difficult decision to explore other options for his basketball career.
Goode becomes the fourth player from Illinois to enter the transfer portal following their run to the NCAA Elite Eight. Dain Dainja, Sencire Harris, and Amani Hansberry have all found new destinations after entering the portal earlier.
With Goode’s departure, along with the loss of three other transfers and five seniors to eligibility, Illinois will be looking to rebuild their roster for the upcoming season. Ty Rodgers is set to be the returning scoring leader, with only one of the top eight scorers from last season remaining on the team.
Despite the departures, Illinois has managed to pick up four players from the transfer portal, including highly touted prospects Carey Booth, Kylan Boswell, and Tre White, as well as Jake Davis. The team is hopeful that these additions will help fill the void left by the departing players and lead them to success in the upcoming season.
