Former India Women’s Hockey Team Player Jaspreet Kaur Trains at Ranchi Camp Under Hockey India’s Initiative
Former India Women’s Hockey Team player Jaspreet Kaur is making a comeback to the sport, but this time as a coach and trainer. The 28-year-old was part of a group of former drag-flickers who underwent intensive training under the guidance of High-Performance Director Herman Kruis at SAI Bengaluru earlier this month.
The training session was part of Hockey India’s initiative to standardize coaching methodologies and nurture the next generation of hockey talent. Jaspreet, along with other former players, honed their coaching skills under the watchful eye of Kruis, ensuring they were equipped with the latest techniques and methodologies in goalkeeping and drag-flicking.
Speaking of her experiences, Jaspreet mentioned that the program was a brilliant initiative by Hockey India, focusing on goalkeeping and drag-flicking, which require special techniques. She expressed her gratitude for being a part of the training and learning from the stalwarts of Indian hockey.
After the intensive training, Jaspreet and the other seasoned trainers have been strategically deployed to premier national academies across India to share their expertise with aspiring young athletes. Jaspreet held her first training session at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where she emphasized the importance of identifying and grooming potential drag-flickers at the grassroots level.
Jaspreet, who earned 13 International Caps for the Senior Indian Women’s Hockey Team between 2011 and 2017, expressed her gratitude to Hockey India for giving her the opportunity to give back to the sport that has given her so much. She is determined to train youngsters with all her heart and contribute to the development of hockey in the country.
As Jaspreet embarks on her coaching journey, she will travel to various cities across India to conduct training camps and share her knowledge and experience with young athletes. Her passion for the sport and dedication to nurturing talent make her a valuable asset to the future of Indian hockey.
