Brazil Prepares for Regulated Sports Betting Launch: New Norms Released
The Brazilian sports betting landscape is set to undergo a significant transformation with the release of new norms by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) ahead of the launch of regulated sports betting in the country. The CBF’s 2024 General Competition Regulation (RGC) has been updated to align with the sports betting legislation signed by President Lula da Silva, setting the stage for a new era in Brazilian sports betting.
One of the key aspects of the new guidelines is the prohibition of unlicensed betting operators from advertising in Brazilian football. Licensed operators looking to promote their products through CBF events will have to adhere to strict guidelines and submit a declaration stating that they have not been involved in any match-fixing activities. The CBF will closely monitor compliance with these rules and impose financial penalties for any breaches.
In addition to these restrictions, the guidelines also include a ban on the use of language that promotes betting as a means to achieve financial freedom or guarantees wins. These responsible gambling measures aim to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of Brazilian sports.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s Ministry of Finance has outlined a detailed timeline for the creation of policies for the new gambling regulator, the Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA). The regulatory process will be divided into four phases, covering a range of topics from payments and security of betting systems to responsible gambling measures.
With the release of these new norms and the progress towards the launch of regulated sports betting in Brazil, the country is poised to become a key player in the global sports betting market. The Ministry of Finance has already received expressions of interest from 134 operators looking to enter the Brazilian gambling market, highlighting the immense potential of this emerging industry.
