Indian Hockey Awards 2023: Harmanpreet Singh, PR Sreejesh, and Abhishek Among Winners

India’s hockey stars were honored at the prestigious Hockey India Annual Awards ceremony, with captain Harmanpreet Singh and veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh among the recipients of the top awards.

Harmanpreet Singh was awarded the Pargat Singh Award for Defender of the Year, earning a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh for his outstanding performances in the past year. Meanwhile, PR Sreejesh was recognized with the Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of the Year, highlighting his exceptional skills between the posts.

Young striker Abhishek was presented with the Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year, showcasing his potential and talent on the field. Asunta Lakra Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Women, Under-21) was claimed by Deepika Soreng, while Araijeet Singh Hundal received the Jugraj Singh Award for Upcoming Player of the Year in the men’s division.

The Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award, the most prestigious award of the evening, was bestowed upon Ashok Kumar, son of the legendary hockey player, with a prize money of Rs 30 lakh.

The ceremony also recognized players for their milestone achievements, with several players reaching significant caps in their international careers. Notable mentions include Harmanpreet Singh, Savita, and Sreejesh for reaching milestones in their respective careers.

In addition to individual awards, the gold medal-winning teams of various tournaments were also honored, showcasing the depth of talent and success within Indian hockey.
